About the department
The Department of Geography is one of the core departments of Kazi Nazrul University was established in the year 2015. It offers two Master’s Degree programmes, viz. M.Sc. in Geography and M.Sc. in Geoinformatics, and also a Ph.D. programme in Geography. The Department also offers some discipline specific short-term diploma and value-added courses for upgrading the skills and employability of enrolled students. The Department envisions striving to integrate the natural and social sciences to understand and solve the problems of people and the environment. In doing so, it endeavours to function efficiently to encourage and provide instruction, teaching, training, and research in varied aspects of geographical importance. The focus of the Department is to let the students learn their courses proficiently, which can further make them progressive and empowered in advancement, dissemination of knowledge, achieving higher education and to meet the growing needs of society. The Department has successfully conducted various workshops (Hydro-Geo 2022, Urban-Geospatial 2022) and international webinars (EarthTalks 2020, One Day International Webinar Talk on Pandemic, Environment and Health). The major thrust areas of the Department are Geomorphology (Theoretical & Applied), Environmental and Urban Issues, Regional Development, Natural Hazards and Disaster Management, Remote Sensing & GIS, etc. Presently the Department has 06 faculty members (2 Associate Professors and 4 Assistant Professors) and 1 supporting staff. Moreover, the Department typically maintains state-of-the-art research facilities, including GIS laboratories and remote sensing equipment, which are instrumental in both teaching and research activities.
